Ambassador Rhee Zha Hyoung attended International Literacy Day Ceremony on 5 September, and congratulated Afghan Government and Afghan people for their achievement in improving literacy.
Korea has supported efforts to increase access to quality education, including literacy education. Ambassador Rhee was awarded with a Special Prize by the Ministry of Education in recognition for Korea’s support to adult literacy education. Korea had adult literacy rate of only 20% in 1945 but today the rate is estimated to range between 98 and 100%. We hope Afghanistan will be another success case in tackling illiteracy.
