Korea-Australia 1.5 Symposium, presented by the Korean Embassy and Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) was held at the Realm Hotel on Monday 16 December. From ASPI, Mr Michael Shoebridge, Director of Defence, Strategy and National Security Program, Dr Rod Lyon, and other fellows and analysts attended the symposium. From Korea, Ambassador LEE Baeksson with other employees of the embassy, Director Deputy-General of ASEAN Divison and Korea National Diplomatic Academy Research Professor attended the symposium. Korea’s New Southern Policy and Australia’s Indo-Pacific Strategy were presented and both sides shared their perspectives. Furthermore, both sides discussed various subjects such as foreign policy, diplomacy, strategy, international affairs, security, etc including the similarities between Korea’s New Southern Policy and Australia’s Indo-Pacific strategy. At the symposium, Ambassador LEE Baeksoon emphasised the need for upgrade of Korea-Australia relations to address the shared challenges to security and prosperity in the era of global uncertainty.
