2019 Korean Film Festival was held at TIFF Bell Lightbox on July 5-6, 2019 hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Toronto.
Mr. Chung, Tae-in, Consul-General of the Republic of Korea stressed the achievement of Korean cinema in his opening remark celebrating the 100th anniversary of Korean cinema in Toronto, the heart of Canada’s film industry and Korean Director Joon-ho Bong’s winning of the top prize ‘Palme d’Or’ at the Cannes Film Festival. He also introduced Korean movies highlighting the country’s talented and creative film-makers, and expressed his hope that this film festival will be a valuable opportunity to enhance Canadian people’s understanding of Korea and Korean culture.
The opening film was based on on a true story of people who worked hard for compiling the first Korean language dictionary during the Japanese colonial period. Moreover, there were five movie screening including and with about 700 audiences including prominent figures from political, business, and cultural fields as well as people from Korean community.
