On March 8, Ambassador Enna Park attended the 2019 Security and Defence Conference held by Royal Institute of International Affairs Chathamhouse and delivered a speech on the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula and its regional implications.
Prior to the speech, Amb Park expressed her contentment for delivering an address as a female on the issue of security and defense, which used to be the turf of men, on the International Women’s Day. Through the speech, Amb Park noted that establishing permanent peace on the Peninsula by resolving the North Korean nuclear issue would create enormous positive dynamics in the region and the world. With regard to the latest US-DPRK Summit, she highly noted the two leaders’ continued commitment to dialogue, and reiterated the importance of the role of the Republic of Korea as a mediator and a facilitator. Furthermore, she emphasised the need for the international community to encourage North Korea to change course by sending the message that a brighter future is guaranteed if it chooses the right path at this critical juncture, and requested the participants’ keen attention and support for the issue as global opinion leaders.
