The 2018 Hansik(Korean Food) Contest is a
Korean cooking competition organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in
Malaysia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Korea, Ministry of
Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of Republic of Korea, Korea Agro-Fisheries
& Food Trade Corporation, and the Korean Food Promotion Institute.
This event is aimed at raising awareness of Korean food, traditions,
history and culture among the Malaysians and also to encourage contestants to
think out of the box by trying to blend the Korean food into Malaysians’
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea has previously hosted the Hansik
Contest in 2015 and 2016 under the collaboration of Malaysia’s private
universities, Sunway University and UCSI University. This year, the third Hansik
Contest will be held in Malaysia, and this time it will be held in line with
the K-Food Fair, organized by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade
Corporation from 3 to 5 August 2018 at Sunway Pyramid shopping mall.
A total of 16 teams will be selected by the Korean Embassy based on the document
evaluation and the selected teams will present the ‘pork-free Korean food that
can be enjoyed by all Malaysians’ on the contest day. Each team will be given 45
minutes to cook the food and after that, a presentation will be made for 3
minutes in terms of originality, globalization, passion for Korean food and
culture. The contestants will be evaluated based on Correct Preparation and
Taste(Taste, Composition, Hygiene, Plating, Degree of Difficulty) and Presentation(Originality,
Globalization, Passion for Korean Food & Culture).
3 teams will walk away with attractive prizes — Top 3 cash prizes worth RM
7,000 (1st Prize RM 4,000, 2nd Prize RM 2,000, 3rd
Prize RM 1,000). The Grand Prize Winner will also win an all-expense paid round
trip to Korea.
