PNG National Weather Service Predicting Heavier Rainfall than Usual
PNG National Weather Service says this is the wettest dry season on record. In Papua New Guinea, May through August is traditionally the dry season with little rainfall. However, Port Moresby recorded 160 millimeters or more in rainfall from May 11, 2019 to August 11, 2019. November through April is PNG’s wet season, and much heavier rainfall is expected than usual due to global warming. PNG NWS Director Samuel Mahai predicts that a tropical cyclone may hit the Pacific Islands region over the next couple of months and PNG may have unusually heavy rainfall over the next six months.
