2019 Singapore Hansik Contest

Embassy of The Republic of Korea to the Republic of Singapore (Ambassador, H.E. Ahn Young-Jip) organized 2019 Hansik (K-Food) Contest 2019 from 2 PM, 6th July 2019 at Our Tampines Hub.





Total 12 team (2 members per team), 24 Singaporean were chosen to participate in the contest and competed each other to cook a compulsory dish (Japchae) and another dish; Chicken based Korean Food.

 *Braised spicy chicken, Ginseng chicken soup, Korean style fried chicken, Spicy stir-fried chicken, Andong-style braised spicy chicken with vegetables







Five judges concluded Mother-Son team (team4); Ms Tang Lee Choo and Mr Christopher Choy won 3rd prize, 2nd prizes went to
Team 1; Ms Veron Yeong and Ms Ng Hui Yi. Finally, the 1st prize went to a friend duo, Ms Suharti Hussain and Low Si Lun (team
12)​


The 1st prize winner (team 12)’s Japchae wows judges by using black pepper which will blend well to Singaporean’s palate and team’s second dishes; Andong-style braised spicy chicken with vegetables brought an authentic taste of Korean chicken dish. One of the team member from 1 st prize winner will be invited (with sponsored flight ticket and accommodation) to final round of Hansik Contest in end of November 2019.



​Ambassador H.E. AHN Young-Jip commented that he has been receiving Singaporeans’ interests and love in Korean culture from both K-POP contest last week and Hansik Contest today and quoted “I wish that Singaporeans’ love for Korean food can be seen not only by eating out to Korean restaurants but also cooking Korean food at home. Alternatively this will help Korea to export more agricultural products to Singapore”



As a part of Hansik contest, Gimbab hands-on cooking class supported by Korean Association Singapore was held for 20 Tampines residences.​
