The National Commission Against HIV / AIDS Timor-Leste, registered that the largest number of people living with HIV / AIDS is in Dili with 78 people and number second is Bobonaro with 71 people.
“Of the 71-people living with HIV / AIDS in Bobonaro, 20 of them have died and 30 others are on medication at the Maliana General Hospital,” said Odete Viegas, Director General of Service Provision of the Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste.
According to data at the Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste, from 2003 to 2017 the number of people living with HIV / AIDS in Timor-Leste reached 689 people.
According to the Director of Prevention and Education at the National Commission on Combat HIV / AIDS, Atanasio de Jesus, the number of people living with HIV / AIDS in Maliana is high because of the large number of activities that occur on the border between Timor-Leste and Indonesia.
On the same occasion Vice Diocese of Maliana Father Lucio de Deus, appealed to men and women who have married to maintain mutual respect anywhere they live and work.
In addition, Bobonaro Health Director, Vitor Soares Martins, said that his side will continue to work to share information with the Bobonaro community to avoid HIV / AIDS.
Executive Secretary of the National Commission Against HIV / AIDS, pledged to continue fighting against the spread of HIV / AIDS to prevent Timor-Leste from becoming a hotbed of this lethal disease.
