On Tuesday December 5, 2017, it was a historic day for Kim Shin Hwan, due to an emotional event where the coach of Timor-Leste under-19 and 23 football team was awarded by Korean President Moon Jae-in.
Korean Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Kim Ki-nam was representing President Moon to pin the award badges to coach Kim. After receiving the honor, coach Kim conducted an interview with the national media crew along with a photo with the Korean Ambassador.
In an interview, Ambassador Kim Ki-nam said that coach Kim has big role in strengthening relations between the people of both countries, and the ambassador also admits that football is the most powerful way to strengthen relations between the populations of both countries. “From 2001 to the present, it's been almost 16 years, nothing has changed with Mr. Kim, he has not stop doing his best as a football coach in Timor-Leste. Therefore, President Moon decides to award Mr. Kim,” the Korean ambassador explained.
Mister Kim has become part of the East Timorese football family. Through the touch of his hand many footballers in Timor-Leste born after the crisis in 1999. He leads Timor-Leste juvenile football team to win prestigious Revelino Cup for two times in Japan. Despite of lacking financial support, Mister Kim with his courageous heart manage to carry Timor-Leste’s juvenile team to play at international tournaments.
Mister Kim’s support to the national team continues, where he recently brought the under 19 and under 23 national team to undergo two weeks preparation in Korea. For this very event, Mister Kim took full responsibility for all the expenses.
