On Wednesday May 30th, Ambassador Kim You-Churl hosted a dinner at his residence for directors of the KOPIA offices in Africa and a delegation from the Rural Development Administration(RDA).
* KOPIA: Korea Program on International Agriculture
The KOPIA directors from Kenya, Ethiopia, Senegal, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Uganda shared not only their expertise and experiences in the field of agriculture area but also their love for Africa. The director of the Senegal Office, for example, mentioned that the ongoing onion improvement project is expected to have an import-substitution effect for onions, much of which are imported in spite of being a staple food.
The directors complimented Uganda’s agriculture environment including the fertile soil, abundant water and mild weather. Mr. Oh Kyung-Suk, director of Overseas Agricultural Technology of RDA, stated that a lot more hard work is needed to ensure that Korea’s agricultural technology is made beneficial to countries in Africa.
Amb. Kim spelled out his strategy for Uganda’s agricultural development like a rice farm complex and securing experts is an essential part of the plan. He expressed his gratitude to the directors for sharing their expertise.
We hope the productive discussion on this day will be another step in contributing to the development of agriculture in Africa.
