On Wednesday July 4th, Ambassador Kim You-Churl paid a visit at International University of East Africa(IUEA), which is located in Kansanga along Ggaba Road in Kampala. IUEA was established in 2010 with Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, the Governor of the Bank of Uganda, being it’s first chancellor. Through the effort of Prof. Emmanuel and in cooperation with Google, IUEA has successfully installed Optical network and WiFi, which provide high quality to the entire university population.
IUEA’s President Mr. Hassan Alwi who also known as a car racing enthusiast welcomed Amb. Kim to the university and led a tour of the campus, including the main hall where Korean film festival is proposed to held later this year. They also toured the university’s innovation centre which would offer a big opportunity for mutual cooperation with a country like the Republic of the Korea which is a global leader in IT.
Amb. Kim, who was accompanied my Pro.Roh Ho-Sun from Reformed Theological College, was impressed by the advanced and stabile education system of IUEA and it’s accomplishments over a short period of time, since it’s establishment. Amb. Kim mentioned that he would like to seek further ways of strengthening cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Uganda. He also expressed hopes for over 10 schools in Uganda operated by Koreans to attain the level of IUEA.
In IUEA the devotion of Koreans in the field of education was visible. We are well informed that many Koreans are striving for the development of Uganda and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea continues to offer its support to them as best as it can.
