The Soroti Fruit Processing Factory has been commissioned

On April 13, Ambassador Ha Byung-Kyoo attended the completion ceremony of Soroti Fruit Processing Factory in Teso Region. The ceremony was graced by President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. Amelia Kyambadde, Minister of Agriculture Hon. Ssempijja Bamulangaki Vincent, Minister of Internal Affairs Hon. Jeje Odongo, Uganda Development Corporation Executive Director Dr. Patrick Birungi, and Teso Parliamentary Group chairperson Hon. Patrick Okabe.

The fruit factory was established by the pledged grant of USD 8 million by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) involving the construction and machinery purchase, installation and commissioning. Ms. Jun Young Suk, the KOICA country director, said the factory is expected to reduce poverty and improve the household incomes of fruit farmers in Teso Sub-region and beyond. The factory will also increase the farmers’ productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and increase international trade while strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries.

Ambassador Ha, in his remarks, appreciated the tireless efforts and dedication put into this project and the close cooperation among the stakeholders and emphasized, through the factory, we begin to fulfill our promises to each other, our children, and the generations to come.
