Ambassador Cho Hyun
Ambassador Cho Hyun is the 26 Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations. He assumed his current position on October 22, 2019.
During his 40 years of diplomatic career, Amb. Cho held various senior positions in the Government of the Republic of Korea, including, among others, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs (2018-2019), Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs (2017-2018), Ambassador to the Republic of India (2015-2017), Ambassador to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna (2011-2014), Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs (2009-2011), and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2006-2008).
Amb. Cho received a PhD in international politics from the University of Toulouse, France, in 2008, and Master of Arts degrees in international political science from the School of Political Science of Paris in 2000 and international relations from Columbia University in 1993. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Yonsei University, Seoul, in 1980.
Awarded his country’s Order of Service Merit (Red Stripes) in 2012, he also earned Austria’s Das Grosse Silberne Ehrenzeichen am Bande für Verdienste in 2014.
Amb. Cho is married and has a son.
