The Queen Elisabeth Musical Competition is one of the three best-known international competitions devoted to the violin, piano, singing and composition. The Eighteenth Queen Elisabeth Competition for singers was held from 14th to 31st May 2014, and when its curtains fell down, the Korean vocalist Hwang Sumi was declared the winner. This is Korea’s second win in a row following the First Prize of Soprano Hong HyeRan in the previous competition held in 2011.
Among the 64 candidates, only 12 vocalists went through to the Final which took place from 28th until 31st May at Studio 4 of Flagey in Brussels. Kim Seung Jick (Tenor), Park Hyesang (Soprano), Yoo Hansung (Bariton) and Hwang Sumi (Soprano) represented Korea at the Final of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. They delivered a superb performance and illustrated a big potential of Korea’s musical scene. Tenor Kim Seung Jick and Baritone Yoo Hansung who were sadly not ranked, performed on Wednesday 4th June at “Théâtre de la Monnaie” for their fans and spectators.
In June the laureates of the 2014 voice competition will give a series of concerts throughout Belgium.
The Laureates' Concert in Brussels will be held next Tuesday 10th June at the Brussels Centre of Fine Arts (BOZART), and we will have the pleasure to enjoy the performance of the two sopranos Hwang Sumi and Park Hyesang.
