Things to bear in mind after picking up your visa
General information:
-You need to print out your visa on a sheet of size A4 paper and always combine it with your passport until entering Korea.
-To validate your visa, you need to enter Korea within THREE MONTH from the Date of Issue (See: the Validity Period of Visa).
-If your visa is a multiple entry type (A1,A2,A3,C3-4,F4-11,H1, etc.) you are free to enter and leave the country during the period outlined by the visa.
-K-ETA is not required for those who enter Korea with a visa.
IMPORTANT FOR LONG-TERM VISA HOLDERS (MORE THAN 90 DAYS):
About the residency registration
-After arrival in Korea, it is mandatory to register this visa within 3 months at the local immigration office that corresponds to your residence (each residence in Korea is served by a specific immigration office, and you will need to find out which office covers your residence).
-At the immigration office, you will obtain your residence card (ARC) that will be used as your official identity document in Korea. The card will also enable you to exit and re-enter Korea within the staying period outlined by the visa.(Local immigration official website→*** https://www.hikorea.go.kr/info/InfoDatail.pt?CAT_SEQ=176&PARENT_ID=139 )
About the health insurance
-According to Korean national law, any foreigner who has stayed in Korea for six months or longer is subject to the statutory subscription to the national health insurance (NHIS). However, if the foreigner follows a 'special regime' such as the Working Holiday Program that requires the applicants to already set up the medical cost coverage in their country of origin, they can choose not to be affiliated with this system.
-This information is communicated in the invitation letter that you will receive by post after settling down in your residence in Korea. If you would like to avoid this subscription, you need to ask for the cancellation of this 'automatic' registartion by directly contacting the NHIS before receiving the first payment bill (https://www.nhis.or.kr/). *It is NOT possible to reclaim a retroactive reimbursement after the payment bills are issued due to failure of the cancellation request.
