Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Canada

Please be advised that Canada has joined the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, commonly known as the "Apostille Convention." As this convention took effect in Canada on January 11, 2024, Canadian public and private documents intended for use in Korea will only require Apostille certificates. There will be no need for further legalization at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Canada.

• Documents issued by the Ontario provincial government or notarized by Ontario provincial notary public (lawyers):

2. Examples of documents:

• - Canadian government-issued documents: e.g., Birth certificates, Marriage certificates, RCMP criminal record certificates, etc.

• - Documents issued by Canadian schools: e.g., Academic transcripts, Enrollment letters, Degrees, etc. 

• - Documents from Canadian businesses, etc.
  

• - Documents notarized by Canadian notary publics: e.g., Proof of residency, Affidavit of signature, Verification of identity, Contracts, etc.
  

▣︎ Please note that apostille and consular legalization cannot be issued concurrently. Effective January 11, 2024, obtaining an apostille becomes mandatory. Documents authenticated by the Global Affairs Canada, Authentication Services Section (JLAC) or Ontario Official Documents Services(ODS) before January 10, 2024, can only be legalized at the Embassy by April 11, 2024.
