General Information - Notarization/Legalization

Please be advised that the Canadian documents for use in Korea are required to be additionally authenticated by the Global Affairs Canada Authentication Sector (JLAC) or the Provincial Government Authentication Service before the legalization by the Consular Section in Korean Embassy.




※ Since Canada is not a Country member of the Hague Apostille Convention, all official Canadian documents must be LEGALIZED in order to be officially accepted and have full validity in Korea.



 Jurisdiction : Ottawa and Gatineau

 

I. In-person 
 


1. A photocopy of document which has been notarized by a lawyer office in Ontario and authenticated by Global Affairs Canada or Provincial Government Authentication Service before the legalization by the Consular Section in Korean Embassy.


       *** Only documents notarized by lawyers(status in private practice) registered with The Law Society of Upper Canada are accepted.

    →The following items MUST be included by the Notary Public:

     - Official Seal of the Notary Public

     - Full name of the Notary Public

     - Signature of the Notary Public

     - Date of Notarization

     - Full contact information of the Notary Public including telephone number and address 
 
2. Fee: C$5.20 per degree copy (cash or money order only; payable to Embassy of the Republic of Korea)

3. The applicant’s passport 

 
II. By a Third party (If currently residing outside Canada) 
 
If you currently reside outside Canada, you must apply through a representative who resides in our jurisdiction(Ottawa and Gatineau).


1. A photocopy of document which has been notarized by a lawyer office in Ontario and authenticated by Global Affairs Canada or Provincial Government Authentication Service before the legalization by the Consular Section in Korean Embassy.


2. A permission letter (signed by the applicant) allowing a chosen representative to act on your behalf

3. A photo ID of the representative

4.The applicant’s passport copy

5.Fee: C$5.20 per degree copy (cash or money order only; payable to Embassy of the Republic of Korea)

 12. Official documents issued by authorities in Canada
