The National Institute for International Education (NIIED), an affiliated organization of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea, administers the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program to foster outstanding international talent and promote educational exchange and cooperation between countries.
The 2026 Global Korea Scholarship for Graduate Degrees is now open for applications. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the attached guidelines and submit their application within the designated period.
This announcement applies specifically to applicants residing in Quebec, Canada. The Quebec track is administered separately and selection is conducted independently from the general country-based GKS selection process.
1. Program Overview (Quebec Track)
Number of scholarships
■One (1) scholarship (separately allocated for Quebec)
Program duration
■Master’s degree: 3 years total (1 year Korean language training + 2 years degree program)
■Doctoral degree: 4 years total (1 year Korean language training + 3 years degree program)
2. Application Method
Applications must be submitted online through the Study in Korea website: https://www.studyinkorea.go.kr
Applicants must create an account, complete the application form, and upload all required documents.
Please note that, in addition to documents required by NIIED, individual universities may request additional materials (such as portfolios). Applicants are responsible for confirming and submitting any additional required documents directly to the universities.

February 12, 2026 (11:00) to February 25, 2026 (18:00)

4. Eligibility Requirements (Quebec Track)
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
■Must be a Canadian citizen
■Must qualify as a Regulation respecting the definition of resident in Québec
■Must meet all eligibility requirements for GKS graduate programs as specified on the Study in Korea website
Applicants who previously received a GKS scholarship are not eligible to reapply, except when pursuing a higher degree level.
Any change of university or field of study requires prior approval from both the Government of Korea and the Government of Quebec.
5. Application Procedure and Required Documents
Applicants must submit their application online using the forms and instructions provided in the “GKS Notice” section of the Study in Korea website.

Some documents require Apostille certification.
Applicants must then request a secure submission link from the Quebec Ministry of Higher Education and submit the required documents:

Required documents include:
1. Confirmation Form
(The email address provided must match the email used on the Study in Korea website)
2. Statement of Purpose in French (maximum 750 words), including:
■Academic or research plan and its relevance
■Expected impact on the host country and home community
■Personal growth and career development
Final selected candidates must submit the original hard-copy application documents to the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Montreal.
6. Apostille Information (Canada)
As of January 11, 2024, Canada has joined the Apostille Convention. Accordingly, Apostille certification is now required instead of consular legalization for documents used between Canada and the Republic of Korea.
