Background Check (Criminal Records) Certificate

• ●The Korean National Police Agency issues "Background Check (Criminal Records) Certificate" for foreign nationals who have previously lived in the Republic of Korea and have requested it through the following procedure:

  
  

  
  

  It does NOT include "Lapsed Records"

• ○※ The Criminal Background Check which is provided through the consulate does not include "lapsed records" and cannot be provided for employment purpose. You must select between the 3 options provided on the form.

  
  

  
  

• ○The organization you are submitting to must be a Ministry or government agency. If it is a private organization, the Korea Police Agency will deny your application.

  
  

  ※ If you would like to apply for a certificate for employment purposes (other than obtaining a visa or permanent residence for employment), it is likely the Korea Police Agency will deny your application.

• ◈︎In-person only. Any applications sent by post will not be accepted and sent back.

• 1. Application for Background Check (Criminal Records) Certificate

  
  

  (print and fill out the application, clearly and legibly. Do NOT type the application. It must be handwritten.)

• 2. A recent passport size colour photo

  
  

  (must have a date stamp at the back and be taken in the last 6 months) * do NOT glue it.

• 3. A valid passport (Original AND Photocopy)

• 4. (If applicable) Copy of your Alien Registration Card or Overseas Korean Registration Card 

•    (If you do not have it, you can just write the Alien Registration Number on the application form)

• ●Approx 1-2 Week (You will receive a call when it is ready for pickup)
  

Once you receive a call, you may drop-in Monday to Friday (except holidays) 9-11:30 am or 1-4 pm. Please have your valid photo ID ready.

• ●You may either pickup in person or if you provided the prepaid Xpresspost envelope (from Canada Post ONLY) at the time of application, your certificate will be mailed back to you. In the case of mailing service, you must acknowledge and accept full responsibility for loss, damage or any issue that may occur druing the mailing process.
