●The Korean National Police Agency issues "Background Check (Criminal Records) Certificate" for foreign nationals who have previously lived in the Republic of Korea and have requested it through the following procedure:
It does NOT include "Lapsed Records"
○※ The Criminal Background Check which is provided through the consulate does not include "lapsed records" and cannot be provided for employment purpose. You must select between the 3 options provided on the form.
○The organization you are submitting to must be a Ministry or government agency. If it is a private organization, the Korea Police Agency will deny your application.
※ If you would like to apply for a certificate for employment purposes (other than obtaining a visa or permanent residence for employment), it is likely the Korea Police Agency will deny your application.

Please do not call our office to check the progress. If you don't receive a call, it is not ready for pickup.
Submission and Pick-up
Please arrive 10-15 min early to have all your documents ready for submission (including all the photocopies). When filling out the application, please follow the sample provided below the TV to the right of the printer.
Required documents
Documents cannot be printed photos. Korean Police Agency will not accept photos of documents
Please provide a neatly photocopied or scanned & printed documents.
(print and fill out the application, clearly and legibly - in capital letters recommended. Do NOT type the application. It must be handwritten.)
(must have a date stamp at the back and be taken in the last 6 months) * do NOT glue it.
(just the page(s) showing your photo, information, and signature - Do not photocopy your entire passport. The front & back of your passports are not required nor are the visa pages.)
(if you used one different from your current valid passport)
●If you no longer have your old passport or your old Alien Registration Card (or at least photocopies of each), you can still try to submit an application without it but there is a chance that the Korea Police Agency may not be able to issue you a certificate without all the requirements.
●* You may either pickup in person or if you provided the prepaid envelope at the time of application, your certificate will be mailed back to you. The Consulate will not track the status of your mail for you. Please keep a record of the tracking number and contact Canada Post (canadapost.ca) to track the return mail.
