Background Check (Criminal Records) Certificate

The Korean National Police Agency issues "Background Check (Criminal Records) Certificate" for foreign nationals who have previously lived in the Republic of Korea and have requested it through the following procedure:

※ The Criminal Background Check which is provided through the consulate does not include "lapsed records" and cannot be provided for employment purpose. You must select between the 3 options provided on the form. The organization you are submitting to must be a Ministry or government agency. If it is a private organization, the Korea Police Agency will deny your application. If you would like to apply for a certificate for employment purposes (other than obtaining a visa or permanent residence for employment), it is likely the Korea Police Agency will deny your application.

If you would like to request written confirmation (which you can submit with your certificate without lapsed records) that Korean government does not issue certificates with lapsed records, please email torvisa@mofa.go.kr.
