MINISTRY OF JUSTICE GUIDELINE CHANGES AS OF DECEMBER 21, 2020

Beginning Dec 21, 2020, as per Ministry of Justice guidelines, we are no longer accepting COVID-19 ASSESSMENT LETTERS from doctors confirming that the patient does not exhibit (or claim not to exhibit) common COVID-19 symptoms. This change is due to the fact that those who reside in Canada are able to get PCR tests done for COVID-19 and there is an increasing number of COVID-19 POSITIVE patients globally who are asymptomatic or claim to be asymptomatic who cannot be screened simply by an assessment letter.

This measure is in effect as of December 21, 2020 and will apply to every applicant except those attending the funeral of an immediate family member in Korea (they will still be permitted to submit either COVID-19 TEST RESULTS or ASSESSMENT letters as the nature of their visit is urgent and extremely time sensitive).

- SUMMARY OF CHANGES -

UNTIL DEC 18, 2020: Option to submit either OPTION 1 COVID-19 ASSESSMENT LETTER or OPTION 2 (NEGATIVE) COVID-19 TEST RESULTS.

You needed have been seen in person by the doctor or get tested at the test centre maximum of 48 hours before your visa application time.

FROM DEC 21, 2020: Everyone must submit NEGATIVE COVID-19 TEST RESULTS except those attending the funeral of an immediate family member in Korea (they will still be permitted to submit either COVID-19 TEST RESULTS or ASSESSMENT letter)

The TEST RESULTS are only valid for 48 hours. This is different from before. This means your test is valid for longer since you can now get tested more than 48 hours before your appointment time as long as the results are not more than 48 hours old.

DETAILED STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE FOR TESTING:

1) If you are visiting our office to apply in person, when you have ALL required documents except your COVID-19 PCR TEST RESULTS, please book a visa application appointment online.

Applying by mail? If you reside 2 or more hours away from our office and are applying by mail, please send us ALL other documents and do NOT get tested for COVID-19 untill you receive confirmation and instructions from the Department. Please click here for complete mailing-in instructions.

2) After you secure a visa application appointment (appointment is confirmed only when you receive an automated confirmation email) or after you get a call from the Visa Department to get tested (if you mailed in your application), please make an appointment to get COVID-19 test done. TEST RESULTS ARE VALID FOR 48 HOURS.

Please get tested approx 60 hours before your visa appointment time (ask at your testing centre for approximate processing time and if they say it takes minimum 3 days for results, you may get tested 3 days before your visa appointment time).

Test results take minimum 12 hours to 1 week in Ontario and Manitoba. On average, it takes approx 48 hours. Getting tested 60 hours before your appointment time ensures your test results will be valid at the time of your application.

3) At the time of your visa appointment, if your test results came out, please print & hand in the test results.
4) If you do not yet have the results by your appointment time (i.e. results did not come out for 60 hours), please provide proof that you were tested approx. 60 hours before your visa application (i.e. test appointment confirmation email or documents received at the testing centre). Only and if only you provide the proof, you will be given instructions to supplement your test results by email later. You cannot just get tested after you submit your visa application. Your application will NOT be accepted without proof that you were tested.

Those applying for C-3-1 visa & Quarantine Excemption to attend an immediate family member's funeral can either submit NEGATIVE PCR COVID-19 TEST RESULTS or alternatively, also have an option of providing a COVID-19 ASSESSMENT LETTER by a physician instead due to the urgency of the situation.

You may undergo examination by a physician (family doctor, walk-in, etc. all acceptable). While a simple letter stating the applicant is in good health for travel is not acceptable, there are no specific formats other than that the applicants must undergo a medical examination in person by a physician at a medical office within 48 hours before the date of application.

The letter by your physician MUST BE TYPED and must clearly state the following:

1. that the applicant was seen in person by the physician

2. the applicant's temperature taken on site by the physician or medical stuff on the date of the visit

3. spelling out and clearly confirming the absence of at least 6 or more common COVID-19 symptoms including but not limited to fever, cough, chills, headache, muscle ache, pneumonia, etc. If the letter states that the patient does not exhibit COVID-19 symptoms but do not spell out the absence of 6 or more symptoms, the letter will be rejected.

4. physician's full name, signature, contact information, and clinic or hospital's stamp
