[VISA] [COVID-19] VISA GUIDELINE: C-3-1 Other Short Term Essential (i.e. attending your or your child's wedding, court appearance for adoption)

Before you proceed, read this:


Are you visiting an immediate family member in Korea who is a Korean national or a long-term visa holder in Korea? Or are you accompanying a Korean family member (i.e. spouse, child) on a visit to Korea? If so, you may be eligible for Short Term Family Essential or Emergency Visit(Click).

[ Eligibility criteria for application ]


A person who is visiting Korea for essential purposes and will stay for a short period of time (90 days or less). You do not need to be an immediate family member of a Korean national nor a foreigner residing in Korea with a long term visa. However, the examples of an essential visit are limited to the following:


1. Attending your own wedding in Korea taking place within 5 weeks

2. Attending your child or parent's wedding in Korea taking place within 5 weeks

* Attending wedding of someone other than yourself or your child's is currently not considered essential and we are unable to accept visa applications for applicants to attend the wedding of sibling(s), spouse's sibling(s), other relatives, and friends.

3. Court appearance for adoption hearing in Korea

4. Picking up your child from Korea after adoption is granted


If the purpose of your travel is not covered above as essential nor is it covered on our website but you are of Korean descent and eligible to apply for a F-4 visa, you may apply for this visa for any purpose of entry (click to be directed to those pages):

Overseas Korean (F-4-11 general or F-4-11 males under age of 41) & Descendant of Overseas Korean (F-4-12)


If the purpose of your travel is not covered above, please see other guidelines to see if there are guidelines for your purpose of entry. If it is not covered on any of the guidelines on our website, it is likely that we are not currently issuing those visas. 


If you are unsure, please first read the FAQ and follow the instructions to contact the Visa Department for us to assess whether your trip can be considered essential and/or for humanitarian reasons. 



[ Visa Type ]


Entry: single-entry visa valid for 3 months (you must enter Korea within 3 months of visa issuance)

Periods of stay for this visa: up to 90 days from the date of entry


This visa holder is not eligible to work or study in Korea and must leave Korea within 90 days. This visa type cannot be converted to another visa type and the stay cannot be extended.

[ Documents ] Please prepare to submit in the order listed.


1. Visa Application Form (print & fill out the attached form)

2. Valid passport (must have a validity of 6 months or more left)

3. Photocopy of passport (colour or black/white)

4. Passport photo taken within the​ last 6 months


5. Proof of the essential nature of the trip:


   5-1. [for your own wedding] Original wedding invitation (may be a printout if you have an e-invitation), signed wedding venue contract, and photocopy of spouse-to-be's passport

   5-2. [for your parent or child's wedding] Wedding invitation, wedding venue contract AND proof of family relationship

i.e. 가족관계증명서(상세), Certified copy of birth registration or statement of live birth (both original and photocopy)

   5-3. [for adoption court appearance] Court documents to prove your court appearance requirement (in Korean or English)

   5-4. [for picking up your child after adoption is granted] Court documents proving your adoption was granted (in Korean or English)


6. Original document(s) proving your financial ability to cover your expenses in Korea


* In principle, documents proving your financial abilities must be original (i.e. bank statement, deposit/withdrawal statement). Bank statement is only accepted when it is issued within the past 30 days.


※ If submitting a parent or another family member's bank statement, family relation certificate (if you are of Korean descent) and/or a letter from your parent (or family member) with written consent and signature must be attached.


7. Flight reservation or itinerary and details of your stay (We recommend you to plan to travel more than 15 business days from the date of submission of your complete application. Please ensure that you either have tickets you can rebook or only submit your flight itinerary. The Consulate is not responsible for costs associated with your flight rescheduling.)


※ We may request additional documents if it is deemed necessary for visa evaluation.
