Consul General Jongho Kyun visits Saskatchewan

Consul General Jongho Kyun visited Saskatchewan during May 7th-9th.



On May 8(Mon), Consul General Kyun met Honourable Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan. CG thanked Premier for sending a trade delegation this February, on occasion of Korea-Canada 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and said he hoped to strengthen Korea-Saskatchewan cooperation in three areas : critical minerals(including REEs), uranium, and SMR.



On the same day, Consul General Kyun paid courtesy visit to the Honourable Russell Mirasty, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. CG said that Korea-Canada relations have developed based on Canadian soldiers' participation in the Korean War and said that he hoped to strengthen cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges on the occasion of Korea-Canada 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.




Consul General Kyun held Energy Roundtables with the Petroleum Technology Research Centre(May 8) and professors of University of Saskatchewan(May 9) and talked about Korea's policies on climate change and energy and Korea-Canada energy cooperation.




During his visit to Saskatchewan, Consul General Kyun also met with the heads of Korean Canadian associations in Regina(May 7) and Saskatoon(May 8) and explained the purpose of establishing the Overseas Koreans Office.



On May 9(Tue), Consul General Kyun visited the Saskatchewan Research Council(SRC), a research centre for rare earth elements.

※ SRC is the second largest research centre and is currently constructing the first REE processing facility in Canada. It also signed MOUs  to strengthen cooperation in critical minerals with KOMIR(Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation) on August 2022 and Star Group International on February 2023.
