On October 11, Saturday, the 9th Consul General Cup Taekwondo Championship 2025 was held at the Richmond Olympic Oval Stadium.
The event was a great success, with participation from over 700 Taekwondo competitors and more than 2,500 spectators. Attendees included Member of Parliament Tako Van Popta, members of the Taekwondo Masters Association, and the BC Taekwondo Federation, among others.
In his opening remarks, Consul General Jongho Kyun highlighted that Taekwondo is a valuable part of Korean culture that has spread widely around the world, greatly contributing to friendship and mutual understanding between Korea and Canada. He expressed his hope that participants would gain a deeper appreciation of Korean culture through Taekwondo.
To offer participants an opportunity to experience Korean culture, the Korean Consulate operated cultural booths featuring activities such as jegichagi (Korean shuttlecock kicking), tuho (arrow throwing), and hanbok (traditional Korean attire) dressing. The Aria Minhwa Association also held an exhibition of traditional Korean folk paintings, including depictions of tigers and magpies, which received enthusiastic responses from visitors.
