INFORMATION ON ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION SYSTEM (K-ETA)
1. INTRODUCTION
● Korean Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) is a system through which a visa-free entry permit can be obtained by providing in advance personal and travel-related information on the website (similar to Canada’s ETA and US’ ESTA) ● Foreigners (i.e. Canadians) can access the K-ETA website and apply 72 hours prior to boarding the flight. ● Please refer to https://www.k-eta.go.kr/portal/apply/index.do for detailed instructions. The Korean consulate is not in charge of K-ETA. ●The system analyzes biometric information, restricted travellers, and passenger risk, and generally gives automatic permission within 24hours. |
2. REQUIREMENTS FOR K-ETA APPLICATION
1. Valid passport 2. Valid email address 3. Photo of face (submit a file for desktop application or a mobile photo for mobile application) 4. Credit card for fee payment (10,000 won which is approx $10) |
3. OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
● Canadians can stay in Korean for up to 6 months for tourism or other reasons that is not for profit when you receive K-ETA ● Visa application and issuance is still required when entering Korea for other reasons such as for working or long-term stay. ● For additional inquiries, please consult the FAQ on the K-ETA website as the Consulate does not process K-ETA applications. ● Starting from July 3, 2023, K-ETA requirement will be exempted for ages 17 years old and under, and 65 years old and above. ※ Those who will become 18 years old on the day of entry are required to obtain K-ETA approval before their entry. ● Travelers who wish to receive benefits from K-ETA application, such as not having to submit an arrival card upon entry, may apply for K-ETA. In this case, the application fee will be charged. ※ K-ETA approval received before July 3, 2023, will remain valid until its expiration date. ● The validity period of K-ETA will be expanded to 3 years for applicants who apply after 00 hours, July 3, 2023 (Korean Standard time). ※ Expansion of K-ETA validity from 2 years → 3 years (as of July 3, 2023). |
