1.      Regarding the fact that the name of Koguryo has been deleted from a list of ancient Korean kingdoms 
in the introduction of Korea on the Internet homepage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, the 
Government of the Republic of Korea has been conveying our deep concerns and asking for measures to 
restore the former sentence including the name of Koguryo at numerous occasions to the Government of the 
People's Republic of China.  In addition, we asked the Chinese government to correct some parts of the 
introduction of Japan that may be misleading about the ancient history of relationship between Korea and 
Japan in the aforementioned Internet homepage.

2.      On August 2, the Chinese side informed our side of its position that it has decided to delete the 
aforementioned part of the Korean history before the establishment of the Government of the Republic of 
Korea on the Internet homepage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and that it plans to correct the 
related contents of its Internet homepage in a few days, and on August 5, it deleted them.  In addition, 
regarding the issue of its explanation of the history between Korea and Japan raised by our government, it 
took similar measures to correct it by explaining the Japanese history only after the World War II.

3.      Regarding such notification, on August 4, our government expressed our disappointment and concerns 
through diplomatic channels in Seoul and Beijing, and conveyed our position that the history of Koguryo is an 
indivisible part of our history and that it is a historical fact that can not be compromised.  Our government 
also strongly urged China to stop and correct its ongoing distortion of the history of Koguryo by the local 
authorities of China and in publications such as teaching materials used in universities.

4.      The history of Koguryo is the root of the Korean people and is an issue of paramount importance 
related to our national identity.  Our government urges the Chinese government to immediately stop its 
distortion of the history of Koguryo on the basis of the spirit of our good-neighborly relations and friendship, 
and we will closely observe the Chinese government's behavior with deep concern.
