1. The Government of the Republic of Korea welcomes the announcement that the Republic of Turkey and 
the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have agreed to establish diplomatic relations on June 27, 2001. 

2. The Korean government believes that the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Turkey and 
North Korea will play a positive role not only in the improvement of their bilateral relations, but also in the 
enhancement of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula through reconciliation and cooperation 
between South and North Korea. The ROK government appreciates that the government of Turkey has 
maintained close consultations with the ROK government in the course of improving its relations with North 
Korea.
