1. Following the Conference for Consultations between Heads of Diplomatic Missions and
Entrepreneurs held on February 10, the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Korea
Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold a 1:1 business consultation meeting between
consul generals and entrepreneurs under the heading of
Meeting with Economists on
February 23 at the Lotte Hotel.

2. The meeting will be participated by 36 consul generals and 86 corporations, with 153
consultations expected to take place (30 minutes each, average of 4.3 cases per consul
general).

o Compared to the Consultations in 2008, to which 50 corporations participated and
141 consultations took place, the consultations this year have expanded with 36 more
corporations (72% increase) and 12 more consultations (10% increase). This development
was possible, despite the limited preparation time after the Conference, due to the
growing amount of interest in this field.

3. In regard to the 86 participating corporations, 61 (70.9%) are small- and medium-sized
enterprises in need of foreign networks, 20 (23.3%) are major corporations and 5 (5.8%)
are organizations and public enterprises.

Major participating corporations: Dong-A Pharmaceutical, GS Caltex, International
Contractors Association of Korea, Aju Group, S.Will, A-Tech System, Windipia, etc.

The areas for consultation are supporting transactions and contracts (52 cases, 51.5%),
providing information on countries (26 cases, 25.7%), solving business difficulties
   (23 cases, 22.8%).

o The number of consultation cases for supporting transactions and contracts has
increased compared to 2008, which indicates that corporations view public enterprises
to be helpful not only in providing information, but also in their efforts to enter foreign
   markets.

Order of areas most discussed in 2008: Providing information (81 cases, 57.4%),
explaining enterprises & public relations (27 cases, 19.1%), supporting transactions
and contracts (19 cases, 13.5%), solving business difficulties (3 cases, 2.1%)

5. As consul generals give their support to Korean corporations entering foreign markets and
solve business difficulties by sharing their accumulated experiences and field information,
this consultation is expected to provide an opportunity for the role of consul generals to be
strengthened in the expansion of Korean corporations’ entry into foreign markets.

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Relations of MOFAT
