1. Minister for Trade Kim Jong-hoon visited Morocco on July 18-19 for a meeting with Abdellatif Maazouz,
Moroccan Minister of External Commerce, on July 19.
2. After recognizing the steady growth in Korea-Morocco trade despite the international economic crisis,
the two Ministers agreed to actively pursue export and trade diversification, and set up a specific action
plan to increase two-way trade, which calls for promoting contact between businesspeople; holding
seminars; and joint research by experts of the two countries. Further, the two sides concurred on
fostering an environment conducive to the conclusion of a Korea-Morocco FTA.
3. Minister Kim requested support for Korean firms’ bid to take an active part in Morocco’s recent projects
involving renewable energy and infrastructure expansion, including those in solar energy; wind power;
power plant; construction of high-speed railway; and port expansion. Welcoming the entry of Korean
businesses into the Moroccan market in response, Minister Maazouz expressed willingness to render
support in this regard.
4. Minister Kim attended a gathering of Korean businesspeople in Morocco on July 18 to exchange views
on their operations; and on ways to increase their presence in the local market and for the government to
help them participate in infrastructure projects in the country.
