1. On March 2010, Hyundai Motors was selected by the UN Procurement Division (UNPD) to
provide 420 mid-size buses (26 persons) worth 1.5 million US dollars to the UN procurement
market.

o On July 19, the UN notified Hyundai of its final decision to select Hyundai, and the contract
    award will soon be delivered
o Hyundai is the first Korean company to enter the UN procurement market for motor vehicles,
to which Toyota and Nissan have long been the main suppliers
※ Korean companies that have entered the UN procurement market to date : Caravan ES
(outdoor items such as tents), UNIDUS (condoms), LG Life Science Ltd (medical supplies
   such as vaccines)

2. The Korean mission to the UN noted the low level of Korean companies entering the UN
procurement market compared to the amount of Korea’s donation to the UN. The Korean
mission therefore continuously requested for Korean companies such as Hyundai Motors to
be given more opportunities to be selected as suppliers. KOTRA’s UN Procurement Market
Support Center, which was established in New York in May 2009, been an active supporter
and also supported this particular process

o Korea’s entry into the UN procurement market (3.3 million US dollars in 208, 0.24% of total
UN procurement amount) is low compared to Korea’s donation to the UN (2.17% in 2009,
11th largest amount in the world)

3. As a way to promote the entry of Korean companies into the UN procurement market,
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has held briefing sessions biannually since 2007
(total of 6 sessions), jointly with organizations such as the four economic organizations.
In cooperation with related organizations, it has also expanded the financial support for
companies entering the market.

o These sessions have helped to increase the number of Korean companies interested in the
    UN procurement market (597 in 2008  -->  797 in 2010)
o The next session is planned for September 14-15, to be held jointly with KOTRA and with
participants to include officials from the IAEA, WFP and other UN related organizations
