ROK to Send a Delegation to Offer Condolences on the Death of Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince

1. After the death of Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud on June 16, President Lee Myung-bak sent a telegram of condolence to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz of Saudi Arabia on June 17, and the Government of the Republic of Korea decided to send a condolence delegation, led by Kwon Do-yup, the Minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, to Saudi Arabia from June 18 to 20.

2. The Royal Diwan announced that Crown Prince Nayef died from a chronic disease in Geneva, Switzerland on June 16. Crown Prince Nayef, next in line to the throne, served as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz, is his brother.

3. Among the countries in the Middle East, ROK has maintained friendly relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia the longest.
