1. The government of the Republic of Korea has decided to provide humanitarian assistance worth US$200,000 to the Philippines, which recently sustained flood damage from heavy rains. It will first consult with the Philippines government as to the means of support and delivery and then undergo necessary procedures as promptly as possible.

* The disaster management authorities of the Philippines announced that as of August 14, the flood left 95 dead, seven missing and 370,000 homeless.

* 56 cities and provinces, including Manila, sustained flood damage, 41 out of which were declared disaster areas. 8,700 homes were destroyed, causing some 33,000 people to live in temporary shelters.

2. With a new tropical storm, “Helen,” currently approaching the country, further damage is expected. The ROK government will keep an eye on further developments and extend additional assistance as necessary.
