1. Chung Tae-in, the Foreign Ministry’s Deputy Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs, held a working-level meeting with a delegation from the African Union (AU) led by C. Pepani, chair of the AU’s Sub-Committee on Multilateral Cooperation, at the Foreign Ministry on August 29 to prepare for the 3rd ROK-Africa Forum scheduled for this October.

2. In the meeting, some progress was made regarding the countries to be invited to the upcoming Forum, the Forum’s program and its concluding documents. Another meeting will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in late September to further prepare for the Forum.

3. The Foreign Ministry has sought to enhance its cooperative partnership with Africa and to work more closely with the region through the AU. To this end, it has actively consulted with the AU on the establishment of an education and training center at the AU headquarters, increased investment consultations by the AU for ROK companies, and the establishment of a network between the AU and the ROK’s relevant agencies.
