1.The government of the Republic of Korea has decided to send a delegation led by former Prime Minister Han Seung-soo to the funeral of former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, scheduled to take place at Saint Paul’s Cathedral, London, on April 17.
° Former Prime Minister Han Seung-soo is to lead the delegation, given his special ties with the UK: He worked as professor at the University of York and the University of Cambridge in the 1960s and 1970s ; was made an honorary Knight of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 2004; and served as the President of the UK-Korea Forum for the Future from 1997 through 2007.
2. In accordance with her own wish, former Prime Minister Thatcher will receive a ceremonial funeral, not a state funeral. Some 2,300 major figures from around the world will attend the funeral to pay tribute to the late Lady Thatcher.
° Late Prime Minister Thatcher made an official visit to the ROK in May 1986, the first of its kind by a UK Prime Minister.
