1. The Foreign Ministry and a provincial government of the Republic of Korea will stage performances of traditional Korean dances in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in celebration of the upcoming ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit 2014 and the 25th anniversary of the ASEAN-ROK dialogue relations.

* The cultural event themed “A Thousand Year Inheritance” will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre at 20:30-22:00 on July 25 and 26.

2. The Gyoenggi Provincial Dance Company to be dispatched to Malaysia was selected through the competition among local government-sponsored cultural groups held by the Foreign Ministry this year for performances abroad. Since its foundation in 1993, the troupe has staged more than 100 performances every year, contributing greatly to the popularization and overseas promotion of traditional Korean dances. The troupe will present comprehensive, artistic performances of various traditional dances of Korea, where seemingly contrary concepts such as lines and faces, curves and straight lines, and dynamism and still movements are well blended together.

3. The forthcoming event is expected to help the Malaysian people better understand the traditional Korean culture and contribute to the enhancement of the ROK’s image as a cultural country. It is also expected to play a role in local governments expanding their participation in public diplomacy and stepping up their capabilities for international cultural exchanges.

4. The Foreign Ministry will continue to hold a variety of cultural events in foreign countries in order to further deepen and broaden international understanding on Korean culture and share cultural sentiments with peoples of those countries.
