ROK Government Delegation for Prevention of Drug-related Crimes Committed by Koreans to Visit China

1. An ROK government delegation, led by Director-General for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Lee Myung-yul of the Foreign Ministry, will visit Beijing and Qingdao, China, on March 18-20 to examine the current state of drug-related crimes committed by Koreans in China and strengthen the ROK-China cooperation in preventing and responding to drug-related crimes.

2. In Beijing, the government delegation will visit the Department of Consular Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the General Administration of Customs, and the Ministry of Public Security and discuss ways to prevent and respond to drug-related crimes. The government delegation will also hold a meeting with representatives from major Korean communities and explain the current state of drug-related crimes and punishments in China and the danger of getting involved in drug-related crimes.

3. In Qingdao, the government delegation will meet with officials from the Qingdao Municipal Government and the Qingdao Customs and hold a meeting on the prevention of drug-related crimes, where some 100 Koreans in China will be invited.

4. The Foreign Ministry will continue to engage in public relations activities to prevent Koreans from getting involved in drug-related crimes abroad.
