ROK and China to Hold their 2nd Dialogue on Development Cooperation Policy

1. The second Republic of Korea-China Dialogue on Development Cooperation Policy will take place in Beijing on April 23 for a discussion on ways to eradicate poverty from the international community.

* The ROK and Chinese head delegates to the meeting will be Director-General for Development Cooperation Oh Young-ju of the Foreign Ministry and Director- General of the Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs Zhang Shaogang of the Ministry of Commerce, respectively.

2. In their first meeting since the first of its kind held in November 2013, the two sides will discuss their current respective policies on development cooperation; the post-2015 development agenda and other global development issues; bilateral cooperation in assistance projects; the operation of the bilateral observation network on yellow and fine dust and the project to strengthen the network’s capacity for addressing the dust issue.

◦ In particular, the two sides will engage in an in-depth discussion on renovating the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)’s observation network facility in China to better deal with the ever worsening issue concerning yellow and fine dust in China, as well as ways to move forward with the project for providing relevant equipment and technology.

3. China, which is emerging as a G2, has lately been increasing its assistance to foreign countries, thereby drawing international attention in the field of international development cooperation. The upcoming ROK-China Dialogue on Development Cooperation Policy is expected to serve as an opportunity for two emerging donor countries in Asia to discuss the global issue of poverty eradication and the achievement of co-prosperity, and thereby take the level of their cooperation a notch higher.
