1. On August 15, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan once again sent a cash offering to the Yasukuni Shrine, and some Cabinet members and lawmakers of the country paid their tributes at the shrine, which glorifies Japan’s forcible colonization and war of aggression.

2. The Government of the Republic of Korea brings renewed attention to Prime Minister Abe’s remarks in his statement issued on August 14 to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II that the historical views “articulated by the previous cabinets will remain unshakable into the future.” In that vein, the ROK government sternly points out that only when leading figures of Japan sincerely carry out self-reflection and demonstrate their remorse through actions, will Japan be able to win trust from its neighboring countries and the rest of the international community.
