1. On October 12, four members of MIKTA - the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Indonesia, and Australia - released a joint statement (as attached) on the terrorist bombings that took place in Ankara, the capital of their fellow MIKTA member, Turkey, on October 10.

2. In the joint statement, the Foreign Ministers of the four countries condemned in the strongest terms the horrific loss of innocent life suffered in the terrorist bombings; extended their sincere condolences to the victims and families of those involved and wished those injured a speedy recovery; and made clear that they stand with the people of Turkey in solidarity as they face this common threat of terrorism, a major challenge of our time that knows no borders, respects no belief, and holds no respect for human rights.

3. This joint statement condemning the terrorist bombings in Turkey is the sixth one issued by MIKTA. It has released several joint statements so far, including those on North Korea’s provocative acts (April 2014), the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 (July 2014), the threat of the Ebola epidemic and global health (September 2014), sustainable development (July 2015), and climate change (September 2015), and thereby increased awareness of MIKTA as a meaningful actor in strengthening global governance and took united action in responding to regional issues.
