1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, jointly with the Mine Reclamation Corporation, will invite the diplomatic corps in the Republic of Korea to visit the ROK’s mining damage prevention facilities, including Hambaek water purification facilities and abandoned mine restoration facilities located in Gangwon-do, on October 15. This visit to mining damage prevention facilities is an event for the diplomatic corps in the ROK from resource-rich countries, which have great potential for cooperation with the ROK in the energy and resources sector. This event is the second of its kind following the first one, held in December 2014.

o The event will be attended by officials from diplomatic missions of 19 countries in the ROK, including ambassadors of Egypt, Turkey, Malaysia, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, and Kenya.

2. The Foreign Ministry expects that the upcoming event will help Korean companies in the mining damage prevention industry to increase their presence overseas by strengthening cooperative relations with countries interested in mining damage prevention activities, providing a range of related technical information, and establishing networks with Korean companies.

o Since 2007, the ROK has signed MOUs on cooperation with 43 organizations of 19 countries, including Australia, Colombia, Peru, Indonesia, Thailand, and Mongolia, and is pursuing mining damage investigation and technical consulting projects.
