ROK and Japan to Hold their 17th Consultation on Development Cooperation Policy

1. The Foreign Ministry’s Director-General for Development Cooperation Lee Yong-soo will hold in Seoul on April 1 the 17th Republic of Korea-Japan consultation on development cooperation policy with Director-General of the International Cooperation Bureau Takio Yamada of the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

2. At the policy consultation, which will come in the first year since the adoption of the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs), the two sides will share with each other their respective development cooperation policies and seek specific ways to work together in the field. They will also exchange views on global issues concerning development cooperation, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation, also known as the Busan Global Partnership.

3. The ROK Foreign Ministry is seeking to further advance its diplomacy on development cooperation and implementing official development assistance (ODA) in an effective and systematic way. In addition, it is holding consultations on development cooperation policy with about ten developed donor countries, including the EU, the UK, Japan and Australia, in order to step up bilateral cooperation in the field.
