GGGI to Hold an International Event in Jeju

1. The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), an international organization specializing in green growth and hosted by the Republic of Korea, will hold the “Global Green Growth Week 2016” event in Jeju from September 5 through 9, bringing together some 1,200 people, including high-level officials of governments, international organizations and companies.

2. The event themed “Maximizing Impact for Inclusive and Sustainable Green Growth” will consist of some 60 programs.

° Among the major programs are a “Global Green Growth Summit,” a high-level meeting to cover ways to raise green fund; a “Green Growth Knowledge Platform Annual Conference” designed to share knowledge on inclusive green growth and relevant, exemplary cases; an “Asia Regional Policy Dialogue,” a high-level meeting to deal with ways to increase the use of renewable energy in Asia; the “fifth session of the Assembly and the ninth session of the Council of the GGGI” on ways to operate the GGGI in 2017 and 2018; and a briefing on green growth policies of such developing countries as Rwanda, Mongolia and Fiji.

° Various side events will also be held by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, the Korea Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the Green Technology Center-Korea, as well as a green growth fair.

3. The ROK Foreign Ministry has been working with the event’s steering committee to render assistance. On September 8, the Second Vice Foreign Minister will host a dinner to mark the end of the GGGW 2016.

° The event is expected to help find creative and pragmatic ways to achieve inclusive and sustainable green growth and thereby to play a role in efforts to expedite green growth across the world.
