1. The Center for International Law at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) will host an international academic conference themed “the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR): achievements and challenges” at the KNDA on November 24 to mark the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the ICCPR.

2. The conference will bring together some 100 people, including experts in law and human rights from home, Hong Kong and Thailand.

3. At the conference to mark the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the ICCPR, the participants will review the achievements and challenges of the ICCPR; discuss the prospective advancement of universal human rights norms; and explore the possibility of establishing a human rights organization in Asia.

4. The forthcoming academic conference is expected to serve as a significant opportunity to discuss ways to advance human rights norms as well as the possibility of building an international system for a more effective protection of human rights in Asia.
