ROK and Equatorial Guinea to Hold their 3rd Policy Consultation

1. Secretary of State Domingo Mituy Edjang of Equatorial Guinea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation will make an official visit to the Republic of Korea from November 29 to December 2.

2. On November 29, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Kim Hyoung-zhin will hold the third policy consultation between the ROK and Equatorial Guinea with Secretary Mituy Edjang, in which they will discuss in depth matters of mutual concern, including the bilateral relations; ways to step up substantive cooperation on economy and development and to work together on the international stage; and the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in Africa.

° With regard to the situation on the Korean Peninsula in particular, the two sides will also discuss ways to work with the international community in pressuring North Korea in response to its fifth nuclear test.

° On the heels of the policy consultation, the two sides will initial the bilateral agreement on the visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and official passports.

3. Equatorial Guinea is one of the top oil producing countries in West Africa with great potential for growth. The forthcoming visit to the ROK by the Secretary of State of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and policy consultation with the country are expected to serve as an opportunity to pave the way for Korean companies’ entry into the country, to step up coordination in pressuring North Korea, and thereby to enhance partnership between the two countries.
