On Saturday, May 31, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ghana, in cooperation with Korean companies operating in Ghana, organized a beach cleanup activity near the Regional Maritime University in the Greater Accra Region. This initiative was carried out as part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts of Korean businesses in Ghana. Participating companies included AFKO Fisheries Co. Ltd., KH Medical Africa Centre, Kolon Global Corporation, Korea House Ninano, Koreana Bus Co. Ltd., and SSK Marine Co. Ltd.. The event was also held in collaboration with Plastic Punch, a local environmental organization actively engaged in tackling plastic waste issues in Ghana.
Ambassador Kyongsig Park of the Republic of Korea stated that Korea is pleased to join the Ghanaian government's efforts to improve the environment and emphasized that Korea will continue to make various efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Speaking on behalf of the Korean business community in Ghana, Mr. Soon Chul Chun, Managing Director of AFKO Fisheries Co. Ltd., underscored that achieving harmony between economic growth and socio-environmental responsibility is at the heart of corporate social responsibility. He affirmed that Korean companies in Ghana will actively support the achievement of Ghana's Sustainable Development Goals as members of the local community.
Mr. Young Gyu Lee, President of the Korean community in Ghana, added that the Korean community in Ghana has long been committed to supporting local development as friends of the Ghanaian people, and expressed hope that this initiative would contribute, even in a small way, to the advancement of Ghanaian society.
