On April 3 (Thursday), the Embassy hosted the signing ceremony for the K9 (Vajra) phase2 project between Hanwha Aerospace and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), with Ambassador Lee Seong-ho in attendance.
Hanwha Aerospace and L&T had previously delivered 100 K9s to the Indian Army between 2017 and 2020. The second phase of the project has been launched based on the strong partnership established during the first phase.
In his congratulatory remarks, Ambassador Lee expressed his hope that this agreement, signed on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Korea-India Special Strategic Partnership, would serve not only as a follow-up contract but also as a stepping stone for expanding strategic cooperation across land, maritime, and aerospace domains.
Mr. Son Jae-il, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, stated that he is pleased to further expand cooperation with L&T, especially as the K9’s performance has been successfully proven in India. He also expressed his intention to continue deepening the partnership with India in the years to come.
Mr. Ramchandani, Senior Vice President of L&T, remarked that the Phase 2 contract represents a natural extension of the mutual trust and reciprocal cooperation between the two companies, and he expressed hope that such collaboration would further broaden into other sectors beyond defence.
Under the new agreement, an additional 100 K9 howitzers will be produced over the next three years at L&T’s facility in Gujarat, contributing to India’s security and self-reliant defence industry.
