The Republic of Korea and Jamaica established diplomatic relations on October 13, 1962, just two months after Jamaica's independence. Since then, the two countries have developed a friendly and cooperative relationship, collaborating on many developmental cooperation projects of mutual benefits. The scope of cooperation has gradually and consistently expanded from political and consular areas to economic, cultural and global issues.
I am very pleased to mention two symbolic projects which highlights the true friendship that exists between our two countries. In recent years, Korea and Jamaica have worked together to implement the Cadastral Mapping Project which facilitates the issuance of land titles to the Jamaican people. This project has touched the lives of many ordinary Jamaicans. Also, Korea's donation of a Digital Archival System to the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) contributed to the digital preservation of Jamaica’s rich history.
As Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy, I will put great effort in sharing the rich and diverse Korean culture with Jamaicans. The Embassy has been hosting events such as the K-Lovers’ Party and the Korea-Jamaica Future Cooperation Forum on an annual basis. I warmly invite you to participate in these events hosted by the Embassy and experience the richness of Korean culture through dynamic programs and memorable cultural exchanges.
