ㅇ The Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Republic of Korea successfully concluded the 2024/25 Knowledge Sharing Programme on the feasibility study for developing a wastewater treatment system in Vientiane. The final seminar, held on August 19, presented comprehensive findings, including design proposals, financing models through ODA and PPP mechanisms, and recommendations for new legislation to ensure sustainable wastewater management and flood resilience.

ㅇ The project, carried out by Korean and Lao partners, aims to address Vientiane’s urgent sanitation and environmental challenges, with an estimated investment of US$150 million. Expected outcomes include cleaner water resources, improved public health, enhanced flood control, and strengthened institutional capacity, reinforcing bilateral cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
