ㅇ Laos has started construction on a modern 300-bed state-owned hospital in Vientiane to meet growing demand for quality healthcare. The project, funded by a US$65 million loan from Korea’s EDCF, will take 2.5 years to complete and represents one of the largest healthcare infrastructure investments in recent years.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Deputy PM and Public Security Minister Vilay Lakhamfong, the Korean Ambassador to Laos Jung Young-soo, KOICA, EDCF, and officials from BKYC Consortium, Bomi Construction, and Yeungnam University Medical Centre. Their participation highlighted the strong Korea–Laos partnership in development cooperation.

The hospital, overseen by the Ministry of Public Security, will feature advanced equipment, units for infectious diseases and mental health, and facilities such as a dining room, warehouse, repair unit, and backup power system. Once completed, it is expected to become a key medical hub that strengthens the country’s healthcare capacity and improves access to treatment.
