THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE ENTERING KOREA

WHAT DO YOU NEED?



K-ETA (OR) VISA 

**This depends on your nationality and the purpose of your visit to Korea.

**Exemptions may apply to certain categories of travelers. Please be sure to read all the way to the bottom.

  • TRAVEL INSURANCE


  • Highly recommended. Travellers are fully responsible for any costs related to medical treatment during their stay in Korea.

  • PASSPORT VALIDITY


  • There is no specific requirement for remaining passport validity for entry into Korea. You may travel as long as your passport is valid for the entire duration of your stay.


  • However, for Malaysian passport holders, your passport must be valid more than 6 months when travelling abroad. Please refer to the note printed on the back cover of your passport.

  • (NEW) E-ARRIVAL CARD


  • Visa holders and travelers without K-ETA, who are not residents of Korea, may complete the e-Arrival Card online within 3 days prior to departure. No fee is required.


  • The application can be submitted here: Link


  • The paper form will remain available until December 2025. Therefore, you may choose to complete the e-Arrival Card either online or manually at the airport upon arrival.

TRAVELLING TO SOUTH KOREA : 

DO I NEED K-ETA OR VISA?

[Who can apply?]

If you are a national from countries that have a visa-waiver or visa-free agreement with Korea (including Malaysia), and your purpose of trips are for short-term: 

Tourism, business meetings, discussions, conference, family visit, training or other non-profitable activities.


Am I eligible for K-ETA?

  • If your country is not listed, you must apply for a visa to enter Korea. 

  • Exceptions apply to certain groups and age ranges. Please be sure to read all the way to the bottom.

[Who should apply?:]

  • 1.If you are a national from countries that is not eligible for K-ETA, (or)


  • 2.Your purpose of visit is not covered under K-ETA (E.g: Short term employment, study, etc), (or)


  • 3.Your K-ETA is denied but still need to enter Korea

  • You are advised to read the manual before making your application.

  • Make sure you are applying at K-ETA official website. The Korean government did not designated any 3rd party agency or website for K-ETA applications.

**Terms and conditions applied

[Any important information on K-ETA that I should know before applying?]


  • 1.Please apply at least 1 month prior to your departure.


  • 2.Validity is 3 years. Application fee is 10,000 KRW.


  • 3.All information must be same as your passport. 


  • 4.Changing to new passport – You must apply for a new K-ETA with new information of your new passport.


  • 5.If your K-ETA is denied but you still need to enter Korea, then visa is required.



[IMPORTANT NOTE:]


The Embassy is not the one who received, assessed or approved your K-ETA application. It is handled directly by the K-ETA Center in Korea. We would not be able to assist you with checking or expediting the progress of your application.


Inquiries on K-ETA related matters to our Embassy will not be entertained.

[EXCEPTION:]

The following groups of individuals DO NOT REQUIRE a K-ETA or Visa:

  • Korean Nationals

  • Diplomatic and Official passport holders of K-ETA required countries

  • ABTC (APEC) Card holders (excluding US and Canada)

  • Registered foreigners (i.e residence card holders)

  • UN passport holders

  • Transit passengers who will not clear the immigration in Korea (excluding Egypt, Sudan, Syria and Yemeni)

  • Those who are eligible for visa free entry schemes for transfer passenger (please refer to the attachment)

  • Nationals from K-ETA required countries aged 17 years old and below, or aged 65 years old and above

  • (Extended till 31 December 2025): Those who are subjected to K-ETA temporary exemption will get a pop-up message when they scan a photo of their passport information page during the application. 

(Among the included countries for the K-ETA temporary exemptions  are: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Macao, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States (- including Guam)).
